Beware ‘Free’ Digital Signage

Digital signage is a budding arena full of potential for small business and big business alike. Those vivid LED and LCD screens have proven their ability to catch the eye of a variety of customers, and in turn boost sales. But not all services are created equal.

Some companies will tout their free service, but in digital signage, as in most other business endeavors, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Be wary of companies offering free digital signage service. There are several possible outcomes in dealing with free service, and none of them are pretty.

Most likely, if the service is any good, your service will start out free, but then suddenly develop a price-tag once you’ve purchased their hardware and committed to their platform. The bottom line is: These companies need to make money. And they’re going to make money from their customers. That means you. Of course, there’s always the chance that your service will remain free, and the company will simply go under for lack of funds, often leaving you with a static, if not unusable sign that will never receive an upgrade, and that no one can service.

What we’re trying to say is: Digital signage is something you’re going to want to pay for. You want the signage company working as hard for you as you do for your own customers. It’s more affordable than you might think, and the advantages digital signage can bring to your business are well worth the cost.
